BLUSH Beats: The Summer of the Brat

August 11, 2024 - Welcome to BLUSH Beats! This summer, the fashion and music scenes are lighting up with an electrifying new vibe—the brat aesthetic. Fashion Influencers like Rita Ora, Hailey Bieber, and Keke Palmer lead the charge in neon green, showing us that this bold look is more than just a fleeting trend. These trendsetters have been rocking the brat style for longer than we might have realized, paving the way for a fresh wave of self-expression.

Spotlight on Music

Enter Charli XCX with her latest album, “Brat”. This record is poised to become the season’s anthem, merging electro-pop with pop-rock to deliver an experience transcending traditional music albums. With its infectious beats and revolutionary flair, “Brat” promises to be on repeat all summer and beyond. Prepare for a soundtrack that encapsulates the spirit of the season.

Embracing the Brat Aesthetic

What does it mean to embody the brat aesthetic? It’s about channeling your inner rebel, showcasing your authentic self, and unapologetically standing out. This approach is reflected not only in fashion and music but also in attitude and personal expression. Whether through your wardrobe choices, playlist, or overall demeanor, embracing this aesthetic is all about owning your individuality.

How to Rock the Brat Look

Fashion: There are two ways to rock the best look.

1. Embrace vibrant neon colors, bold patterns, and statement pieces. Neon green is a standout choice

2. Wear whatever you want, wherever and however. This is your body, so embrace your skin with enthusiastic confidence. Confidence is key, after all.

Music: Dive into Charli XCX’s “Brat” for a dose of high-energy tracks that perfectly complement the brat aesthetic. Its mix of electro-pop and pop-rock is a must-have for your summer playlist.

Attitude: Adopt a fearless mindset. Being a brat is as much about confidence and self-expression as it is about style and music. Let your personality shine, and embrace what makes you unique.

Looking Ahead

In our next edition of BLUSH Beats, we’ll explore how emerging artists and fashion trends continue to shape the summer’s soundtrack. Stay tuned for more insights on the latest in music and style and how you can incorporate these trends into your own life.

Unpacking Charli XCX’s Brat Era

August 18, 2024 - Welcome back to BLUSH Beats, where we mix music with threads and sewing machines. Everyone has been eating up Charli XCX's newest album, *Brat*… but is that all she is? A musician, entertainer, and a hottie? No, she’s more than that. Charli XCX is a fashion icon in the making.

Charli XCX's Instagram Feed Tells Us Everything We Need to Know

Let's hyper-analyze our favorite brat girl's fashion taste, shall we? Charli XCX is the epitome of unapologetic style, strutting her fits on Instagram with confidence. She can dress down to be cute yet casual, with jeans or a little tee action, and in the same breath, she can pull off a party fit on a random Wednesday.

No one should ever have to fit into one style. Although Charli's wardrobe has a common theme—loose-fitting pieces, monotone colors, and a bit of skin—there’s something special about what she wears in daily life. She’s never predictable, always keeping us on our toes.

Wear What You Want, How You Want

Whatever Charli desires to wear, she does so with confidence and resilience. This is reflected perfectly in her Brat album. Dance in jeans, sweats, a short skirt, or quite literally, dance with no pants. No one will care, and if they do, it doesn't matter—you're still having fun, babe.

Charli XCX's Hair and Makeup Is Everything and More

Charli didn't always embrace her naturally curly locks, but like many with curly hair, it’s a journey. Nowadays, her hair is out, unruly, black as the night, and flowing in delicious directions, commanding our attention. We see you, Charli, and we love it. Not only is her hair something to look out for, but her makeup is also on point. While we occasionally love a pop of color on the lids, Charli has reminded us that a jet-black liner on the eyes extends beauty; it doesn't change it.

As summer continues with hot weather, just remember that what you wear is completely up to you. Want to party out at 9 a.m.? Do that. Want to dress down in the late evening? We’ll be cheering for you every step of the way.

Stay with us at BLUSH Beats to step inside the world where music and fashion collide.

Looking Ahead

In our next edition of BLUSH Beats, we’ll dive into how other emerging artists are blending their musical journeys with bold fashion choices, continuing to influence the ever-evolving world of style.

Until next time, express yourself unapologetically and embrace the brat within.

But more than just the music, her collaboration with Jenna Ortega in the "Taste" video brought an unforgettable visual pairing of death-becomes-her chic and modern Hollywood glamor. The video itself is a masterclass in bold fashion statements, and Sabrina’s penchant for rosy blush and sky-high heels has us all swooning. Want to steal her look? Pair a dramatic dress with that perfect cheek flush for a vibe that’s both edgy and sweet.

Emerging Artists: The New Sound of Fall

As fall descends, we’re keeping an eye on the new sounds rising up from the underground. Artists like Suki Waterhouse and Mae Muller are combining moody melodies with effortless style, creating music that feels both nostalgic and cutting-edge. Waterhouse’s ethereal, almost dreamlike aesthetic pairs perfectly with layered autumnal textures—think oversized knits and vintage finds. Muller’s more urban, punchy pop pairs effortlessly with street style looks that feature bold accessories and playful makeup.

Music for the Fall Wardrobe

As you update your wardrobe for cooler weather, here’s our must-have playlist for fall 2024:

1. “Brat" – Charli XCX: The anthem for every bold, unapologetic soul.

2. "Taste" – Sabrina Carpenter & Jenna Ortega: For when you're feeling glamorous with a touch of rebellion.

3. "Melrose Melancholy"– Suki Waterhouse: Perfect for those crisp, introspective mornings.

Gaga’s red revolution

September 22, 2024 - Welcome back to BLUSH Beats, where music and fashion artistry become one. In our latest issue, let’s talk about someone who constantly dominates the fashion world while staying true to her musical genius.

Lady Gaga strutted the red carpet at the London premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux. Wearing a custom piece from Celine by Hedi Slimane, she stunned in a red ensemble with elongated puff sleeves, while the rest of the dress flowed elegantly down her body with a tasteful neckline. Just days before the release of her Harlequin album, she showcased her fashion-forward readiness.

What we can always expect from Gaga is her willingness to step outside the box and unleash her inner monster at any moment. She’s had many experimental fashion moments, like the iconic meat dress from 2010 and the fierce red lace look from 2009. But as the years roll by, her fashion sense has evolved from simply making statements to living in them.

This fall, it’s time to wear red—all shades of red. Often, wearing this bold color makes a statement on its own, but this time, we want you to own it as if it’s just a casual Tuesday night with the girls. Red is fierce, yes, but it’s also just a color that can be worn without causing a stir. Like Gaga, remind yourself that you were made for this, and with that in mind, own what you choose to wear as if it’s no big deal. Of course, not literally nothing, but rather, it feels like nothing. So what if you’re wearing a long red dress that envelops your entire body in the middle of the afternoon? It’s nothing.

Confidence is key when trying something new, so don’t worry if you feel like you can’t pull it off. Try that red blazer you have buried in your closet tomorrow… or the next day. Whenever you choose to try something new, remember that it’s nothing—and you are everything. Own that red.

And if by some chance you already wear red regularly, try an alternative color—one you think is too odd, too strange, or too outlandish. This is the time to think outside the box and explore what color means to you. Does turquoise look bad on you, or have you just not found the perfect turquoise piece yet?

Every time Gaga struts down a red carpet, people are amazed (or perhaps terrified) by her sheer confidence. But just remember, Gaga doesn’t always stick to one style. One day she’ll wear something tame, and the next day, something wild. It depends on her mood—and so should your wardrobe. It’s nothing.

Come back to BLUSH Beats next week as we continue discussing how music and fashion go hand in hand more than we might think.

Stay bold, stay red,

Sierra Jackson, Intern

FALL FASHION TUNES AND VIBES

September 29, 2024 - Welcome back to BLUSH Beats where we combine musical artistry with fashion-forward readiness. As the skies dim, let’s take a step back and do a little reflecting. Any Taylor Swift Folklore fans out there? It’s time to pop in the disc (if you still use them) or play it on your iPhone for some soft, melancholic re-listening. Despite being originally released in one of the hottest months of the year, July, the ambiance and soft ballads create a scenic route of cozy sweaters and warm joggers.

Let’s take a slow, deep dive into the fall season, where warm clothes keep you feeling nostalgic. Turtlenecks, baggy jeans, black boots, bangs, and updos quite literally embody the nature of woodsy vibes—even if you don’t live in rural areas.

How to Rock the Fall Season

Folklore shouldn't be the only album, or even the sole genre of soft pop, for fall. I think alternative tunes take over this vibe. Bands like Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, or perhaps the iconic The Killers are perfect. This is a time for reflection, and what better way to do that than listening to 90s and early 2000s alt bands? Wear those holey baggy pants, Doc Martens, and black eyeliner when rocking your head back and forth.

Darken Up Your Makeup Look

Speaking of black eyeliner, why not dabble in dark maroon or black lipstick? If Rihanna can do it without hesitation, so can you. This is what self-expression is all about—trying something new and seeing if it sticks. If it doesn’t, there’s no harm in it. Trade your summer bronzer for contour and wear berry tones for your blush combo. Makeup is an extension to your fashion just on the face.

Have Fun This Fall Season

The end of September through October is quite literally the calm before the storm when it comes to the holidays. Before the holiday season takes over your senses, spend some time binge-watching your favorite scary movies and wearing whatever you want. Want to dress up for a movie date or match your style with the horror film? Collect horror movie soundtracks in one fail swoop—that’s what Spotify and Apple Music playlists are for.

Take a step back during the fall season and do what feels right in your fashion choices. Next week, we’ll continue our deep dive into what’s fashion-ready and what’s not throughout the music industry.

OWN THE STAGE: FASHION CONFIDENCE WITH SABRINA CARPENTER’S BOLD CHOICES

October 6, 2024 - Welcome back to BLUSH BEATS! We have a lot to cover today in the worlds of fashion and music.

Sabrina Carpenter has raised some eyebrows with her controversial lingerie Short n’ Sweet tour outfits, which deserve a closer look from a fashion perspective.

In her own words: “To that, I just say, don’t come to the show, and that’s OK.”

Every time you walk out in your outfit of choice, you’re putting on your own show—whether you realize it or not. Some people might want to change the channel, and guess what? Let them. Some people might not like what you’re giving. Giving “bum”? Try harder! Looking a little risqué for some people's taste? Cover up! Too casual? Put in more effort!

The reality is, you aren’t going to please everyone, and guess what? THAT’S OKAY! Many musical artists have been scrutinized for their fashion-forward choices—Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Miley Cyrus, to name a few. In recent times, Sabrina Carpenter is facing backlash over her lingerie style. But is that going to change her approach?

Nope. She’s going to strut her stuff as she sees fit, and so should everyone else in this world.

Here are some tips for wearing what you want and how you want:

1. Find Your Crowd

Want to dress like an E-Girl? Find your crew to strut your look down the streets with confidence. It’s better to be around people who dress similarly to feel seen and understood. Of course, this doesn’t mean cutting off friends who don’t share your style. It just means widening your horizons.

2. Confidence is Key

Speaking of confidence, you have to own your look. It’s something we’ve talked about before, and we’ll continue to preach it! If you’re not confident in your own skin, how can you expect others to respect your style?

3. Switch it Up

Keep wearing what you love, but also experiment! Keep your audience on their toes because, in a way, you’re still putting on a show. And let’s be honest, wearing the same style can get a bit boring—so change it up once in a while.

4. Repeat After Me: “I Don’t Care What People Think”

You might not believe it now, but if you say it often enough, it’ll start to sink in. You should never care what other people think because you have only one body, and you get to dress it however you see fit. If someone in your life makes you feel like you can’t wear something, ignore their cries of hysteria. Only wear what you want to wear! Even if you feel out of place, it doesn’t matter. This is your choice, your style.

Next time, we’ll dive further into the intersection of music and fashion with varying artists. Stay tuned!

RIHANNA’S STYLE REIGN: MUSIC, FASHION & CONFIDENCE

October 13, 2024 - Hi Blushing Babes! Welcome back to BLUSH BEATS, where we talk about the latest music trends and fashion all in the same breath. Today, we’re spotlighting our favorite bad girl, Riri. Iconic, influential, and quite literally giving “mother” with every step she takes, Rihanna has taken the music, fashion, and makeup worlds by storm.

A billionaire, multi-talented, and a mother of two, she’s unapologetically herself in everything she does. Luckily for us, we’re front and center as she continues to transform her fashion sense. Lately, she’s definitely softened things up in the way she carries herself in her day-to-day life.

What Did Rihanna Wear This Weekend?

Last week in Los Angeles, Rihanna styled a gray Vivienne Westwood pantsuit. Underneath her double-breasted blazer with brown buttons, she wore a striped green and white soccer jersey, effortlessly mixing business attire with casual Fridays. And, of course, she couldn’t be seen in anything but her own red Fenty x Puma Avanti Sneakers, adding flair to her strut.

Rihanna is Secretly (Not So Secretly) a Body-Positive Woman

What exactly does this tell us about Rihanna? Let’s keep it real. At 36, she’s given birth to two lovely baby boys, RZA and Riot, ages two and one, respectively. Her body has changed drastically and naturally over the past few years—and beautifully so. Embracing her curves and thickness, she’s worked with her ever-changing body by wearing chic clothes while feeling comfortable in her own skin.

So often, we see celebrities go on strenuous fad diets, changing their bodies to appease fashion standards. This is Rihanna’s new body, and she wears it gracefully by continuing to dress how she wants.

Rihanna Bends Fashion Trends
Perhaps no one has gotten the memo that mixing business casual with sportswear is in, but maybe they should. Fashion literally has no rules, and if it did, Rihanna would be the first violator—and rightly so. Business casual in mid-October is the move, and everyone needs to fall in line. After all, Rihanna is a business mogul with a taste for sporty vibes every now and then.

So, if you take anything from this, it’s that combining two seemingly incompatible fashion styles and seeing if they work is worth a try. Maybe they’ll clash; maybe they’ll blend together like a perfect ballad between pop and hip-hop. Experiment this fall with these endless layering possibilities.

Music and Fashion: A Timeless Duo

More often than not, fashion and music are heavily tied together. Although Rihanna hasn’t released an album yet (fingers crossed it’s sooner rather than later!), she’s still recognized as one of the most influential musical artists of the past two decades. And guess what? The way she expresses herself through fashion and makeup artistry is just as iconic.

Stay tuned with BLUSH BEATS as we continue to talk about fashion icons in the music world!
